I should warn you that when getting quotes steer clear from companies offering to spray insecticide to treat your infestation as the industry standard method of treatment is more focussed on the use of gel-based formulations to kill cockroaches. Quite often with spray treatments all that occurs is that you repel and even spread the cockroaches into other areas. Not a good thing when your trying to eliminate a problem.

Some Info About Cockroaches

In the UK the 2 most common species I come across are the German cockroach and oriental cockroach.

The German cockroach is more prevalent in Glasgow and the UK in general. It’s usually a distinctive brown colour with long antennae and 2 dark stripes at the back of its head (pronotum)

German cockroaches have a fast reproductive lifestyle. Each egg capsule (ootheca) can contain up to 30 nymphs (aka babies) & a female cockroach can keep firing out these egg capsules once after the other. This means within short space of time you can become overrun.

They like to hide mainly in the kitchen as the most heat and food is present there although you can get them anywhere in property.

With oriental cockroaches the situation is similar in some but not all respects.

Oriental cockroaches are usually larger than German cockroaches and jet black in colour. They have less nymphs per egg (says around 20).

The twist with this species of cockroach is that it’s slower lifecycle combined with the fact that it lays and glues its eggs in hidden locations means that there is a longer period of time typically required to completely eradicate infestations. This is because initial treatments will kill adults but the eggs hatch after the adults are gone meaning that follow up treatments need to be spaced out a bit.

I should add that eradicating cockroaches is never a single treatment task but a multi treatment task. This means that without follow ups you will never get 100% eradication and if you don’t get 100% eradication then the cockroach numbers will rapidly bounce back to pre treatment levels.
